The TKPOA WATER DEPARTMENT is operated as a separate administrative department of the Association. It’s primary function and responsibility is to operate and maintain all wells, pipe delivery systems and monitoring equipment in order to consistently provide safe drinking water throughout the Tahoe Keys. On a daily basis this department supplies water to 1,529 residential customers and 4 commercial customers. The residential customers are Tahoe Keys owners and renters, consisting of approximately 1,194 single family homes and 335 townhouses. The commercial customers include the Tahoe Keys Marina and Tahoe Keys Office Center.
The water is produced from wells owned and operated by this department which also reports directly to the Association’s General Manager. Water provided by this department is consistently rated among the best tasting and purest water in the world.
In addition to daily monitoring and maintenance of all wells, staff is responsible for many additional tasks including:
- Taking weekly water samples
- Repairing any leak in the water system
- Maintaining all fire hydrants throughout the Keys
- Maintaining all water department buildings
- Handling customer requests, complaints and questions regarding water valves or water pressure
- All water calls (i.e. requests for water shut-offs and turn-ons)
- USA North utility markings.
Most maintenance and repairs on all department trucks are included as staff responsibility as well.
The department staff consists of three employees all of whom are Certified Water Operators with The State of California certification. To maintain these certifications, the State requires annual mandatory minimum CEUs that provide the operators with up-to-date information and training so that safe drinking water is provided to our customers. The manager is responsible for completing and timely delivering all mandated reports to The State of California.
Staff shares weekly rotation of stand-by which means there is someone available at all times to assist customer water needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Homeowners are to call the Water Department in the event of any water related emergencies [such as pipe leaking or water pressure failure] and in the event a 'water turn-off' is needed.
