Tahoe Keys Waterways Restoration Fund

An El Dorado Community Foundation 501(c)(3) Charitable Fund to benefit the Tahoe Keys waterways and lagoons.

Overview

The Tahoe Keys Waterways Restoration Fund (TKWRF) was established as a means for TKPOA homeowners and supporters to make charitable donations to support projects they care about.

Going Above and Beyond

We need to be doing more to improve the quality of the waterways and lagoons that comprise the Tahoe Keys, including Lake Tallac.

Unfortunately, due to budget and staffing constraints every year, our Water Quality Department and Water Quality Committee are unable to pursue a number of projects that could prove beneficial to our waterways.

The TKWRF is a way that interested homeowners can help fund some of these additional projects in a tax-efficient manner. These funds may be earmarked for the purchase of new fixtures or equipment, or to fund additional staff hours.

Project Criteria:

The intent is for the funds raised to be used to support projects that can:

  • Potentially improve the water quality and overall aesthetics of our waterways and lagoons.
  • Help combat the invasive weeds and species that plague the Tahoe Keys.
  • Reduce the outbreak of harmful algae blooms.

The TKWRF Committee

The The Tahoe Keys Waterways Restoration Fund is run independently from the TKPOA by a volunteer committee of Tahoe Keys homeowners that work with our Water Quality Department staff and Water Quality Committee to identify and define candidate projects within and around the Tahoe Keys.

The TKPOA Board of Directors approved that TKPOA Staff may provide limited administrative support to the committee, along with sending out email blasts and publishing articles in the Keys Breeze and on the TKPOA website to help in their fundraising activities.

El Dorado Community Foundation

The TKWRF is set up and administered as a charitable organization under the El Dorado Community Foundation.

The El Dorado Community Foundation enables donors large and small with varied charitable interests to participate in tax-deductible charitable giving as a means to effect positive community change at any level.

Supporting Existing Work

Funded projects are intended to supplement the work already undertaken by our Water Quality Department that is funded through the TKPOA annual assessment fees.

Fundraising

Everyone is welcome to contribute and support one or more identified projects. Pretty much every dollar given goes toward funding projects within and around the Tahoe Keys. Other than a small administrative fee charged by the El Dorado Community Foundation the fund is run by volunteers.

Active Projects

West Channel Floating Islands

Floating treatment wetlands are artificial platforms that allow native plants to grow in water that is typically too deep for them. They utilize microbes (biofilm) and plants to improve water quality, provide wildlife and fish habitat, and offer beautification.
